Welcome to home of hope

We are a Voluntary Social Service Organization and a Non Governmental Organization caring for orphaned and destitute children and other needy persons in the rural community around Digana, Kandy Sri Lanka.    The Project is situated on a 25 acre land 20 KM away from Kandy.

Orphanage Home of Hope’s Goal is to give care to children in need who are affected by poverty & social problems.  It is a very special Home. Its not just an “orphanage” but we provide love, care, education, good food and clothing. The children are looked after in small batches which helps them to feel more homely!

  STORY OF the MONTH
  
We (Alfi & Sharmini) became parents to  19 children on the 19th of June 2001. Our family was 20 children with chendra. Among the 19 children who came Vivatharan,Vijidaran and Nishanthy were two brothers and one sister from one family whom we cared for.Theirbackground is : Vivadaran w-as 15 yrs, Vijidaran 12yrs, and
Nishanthy 10yrs when they came into our family. They do not know any thing about their father, mother left for foreign employment leaving behind the children who were only 6, 3 and the girl who was only 08 months old.  She handed over the children to a family and sent money for their upkeep.
   
  OUR PROGRAMS
New Projects
● We will be constructing a new unit for babies. This will make facilities     available to take in infants.
● We are in the process of building a Medical Centre at Home of Hope to     help the children in and around our project. (Pediatric clinic)
● We will be setting up a Disabled Child Care Center as well. We hope to     bring the children from the area of Kandy, Kundasale Divisional Secretariat     three days a week to the center and train them with their abilities. This will     give some relief to the parents.
● We wish to start an early education center and a feeding center for     children in the vicinity while teaching them English too.
● We will also be setting up an Oral Health Care Center. Our Oral Health     Care Teams will visit the schools in our area and identify the children who     are in need of attention. Then they will be referred to our Dental Clinic at     Home of Hope.
● We have set up a Handloom Weaving Center to train women & girls in the     area. This is partly completed. We hope to give the women to have a     machine at home and work in their spare time to help them towards their     financial situations.
